Unit 5
Alebrije

Reflection- I loved making this butterfly; it was so much fun, but it took so long. I have never made anything with this many tiny details, and I love it. The design was spontaneous and whatever I felt in the moment. The hardest part was trying to make everything symmetrical and mirrored like a real butterfly would be. I would say I failed at that, but it is what it is, at least it still looks good. I don't know how much of a real alebrije this looks, but it is my version of it, so it doesn't matter. I had fun getting to paint this I spent probably the most time I've ever spent on a project on this, and most of the time was just painting it. I wish I could make more projects like this, but I don't have the time.
Useful Piece
Pitcher/vase

This piece honestly means a lot to me. When I first started it, I didn’t have a super clear plan — I just knew I wanted to make something that felt warm and a little nostalgic. Making this wasn’t easy. Getting the branches to flow naturally around the curve of the vase took a lot of patience, and figuring out where to place each lemon so it didn’t look too crowded or too sparse was its own little The branches aren’t perfectly symmetrical, the lemons are a little different from one another, and the glaze has these subtle shifts that I didn’t plan for — but all of it kind of came together in the end.puzzle.

The building process was a little tricky, especially getting the walls to curve in that clean, even way without it collapsing on itself. But it was one of those things where, once I committed to the shape, it started to make sense in my hands. The painting part was probably my favorite. I went with these bright, layered colors because they reminded me of things that feel alive and full of energy.
